Our Key Initiatives

Shared Resources

Great research starts with great tools. KASRA develops and shares practical resources so that researchers can focus on what matters most — the science itself.

The resources we build belong to no single institution. We believe every researcher should have free access to the tools they need, and we are working to create shared systems for research data, software tools, and equipment.

What We Do

  • Develop and distribute open-source research software
  • Build shared equipment and facility networks across institutes
  • Provide data center and computing infrastructure support
  • Expand open access to research materials and scholarly information
  • Operate knowledge-sharing platforms where researchers exchange expertise

Shared Computing Center

KASRA is building its own shared computing facility — open to all member researchers. High-performance computing is essential for modern research, but the infrastructure costs can be prohibitive for individual researchers and small groups. We are solving this at the association level.

The facility adopts a modular server rack design that maximizes cooling efficiency — only active modules are cooled, keeping operational costs low. We plan to expand incrementally based on demand rather than deploying everything at once, with long-term plans for a second-floor expansion to significantly increase capacity.

The design phase is complete and building permits are underway, with foundation work targeted for spring 2026.

An Ecosystem We Build Together

We envision an ecosystem where research resources flow to where they are needed, rather than concentrating in the hands of a few. Even small research groups should have access to cutting-edge tools and infrastructure — and KASRA serves as the bridge to make that possible.
